Setting the Stage
There’s a phrase we all love to repeat in crypto:
“It’s still Day 1.”
And sure, when it comes to the grand arc of this industry — the tech, the innovation, the vision — that statement is true.
But for some of us?
It’s not Day 1 anymore.
It’s the 7th inning, and time is running out.
What Went Down
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the difference between the funded and the freelancers in Web3.
Yes, we’re still early. Yes, the future of crypto looks bright. But some of us are trying to survive the present, not just wait for the future.
For those working at well-funded Base-native projects or top Farcaster teams, runway isn’t a concern. There’s room to experiment, ship slowly, and stay patient.
For creators like me — independent, bootstrapped, full-time onchain — that patience comes at a cost.
I love doing media. I love hosting podcasts and livestreams. But at a certain point, the bills are due.I don’t know if other independents feel this way, but it’s something that’s been heavy on my mind.
Lessons of the Week
This isn’t 2021 anymore. Money doesn’t rain from the sky. Projects don’t mint out in 30 seconds. Attention is harder to earn, and sustainability is harder to reach.
There’s a difference between building with a cushion and building with nothing. One gets to “wait and see.” The other has to “make it work now.”
I still believe. I’m still optimistic. But I’m not naive. If the market turns bearish again and you’re not backed by funding — it could be game over.
Cool Things I Saw + Learned
I’m becoming more aware of what trade-offs I’m willing to make.
If a big company brings me in to run media or marketing — that’s security. But it also means trading freedom for structure. That’s the reality.There’s a growing hunger for honest, grounded conversations in crypto media. I feel that space opening, and I want to step into it with intention.
Most importantly: I’ve learned to be real with myself about where I am, how much time I have, and what needs to happen next.
Builder’s Note
Yes, it’s still Day 1 — for the tech. For the mission. For the next billion users.
But for some of us, it’s much later in the game.
We’re building on borrowed time, trying to carve out a future before the window closes.
